Sad news: John Travolta and Kelly Preston's 16-year-old son, Jett, died Friday after an apparent seizure while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas. Some questions surround Jett's death: Gawker reports that Travolta's rumored gay lover and one of family's two nannies, Jeff Kathrein, discovered Jett's body, and writes, "His qualifications for childcare are unclear, other than being a Scientologist like Jett's parents." Some are also wondering whether Jett's seizures were caused by autism, which Scientologists do not recognize as a medical disorder, believing it "falls into the category of 'mental illness'" (via Hollywood Backwash). "The health problems of tragic teen Jett Travolta would not have been properly treated unless his celebrity Scientologist parents had rejected their religion's theories on medicine, outraged experts said yesterday," writes the New York Post. "In the end, though, a life is lost, which is a tragedy," writes Post Script, the mom of a son with autism who previously suffered from seizures. "I hope all was done for that child that was possible."
