Election 2008: McCain Readies a Comeback?
With a little more than three weeks to go, the Obama campaign seems to have the wind at its back (via Behind the Numbers), and is flush with cash (via HuffPo). Hot Air sees trouble on the other side with Palin and McCain at odds over how hard to hit Obama. McCain is set to unveil a new stump speech today, which paints him as a fighter but it doesn't qualify as a hail mary pass says Davidcorn.com. Donkelphant says it's probably too late to refocus the McCain campaign. But wait, is Drudge priming a McCain "reboot" narrative? asks FiveThirtyEight. Just in time too, with Bill Kristol saying the McCain campaign has become "pathetic " (ouch, via Think Progress). RealClearPolitics' aggregate of poll numbers shows Obama at +6, but it's still all over the map. Gallup shows the gap narrowing, Zogby shows the split at 48% Obama/44% McCain, and McCain's chief strategist Steve Schmidt says the campaign is well within striking distance (via Politico).
McCain on Letterman, Chihuahua Still #1
Miss it at your own risk: McCain will finally appear on David Letterman's Late Show this Thursday (the day after the final presidential debate) and the two will get a chance to make up. Jossip wonders: "Will Letterman take the Bill O'Reilly route and go all soft and sweet once he has his opponent in the chair? Gay Socialites predicts the show will be "awkward" and COED Magazine thinks McCain will simply "get ripped to shreds." Wizbang Pop! disagrees: Considering McCain has appeared on the show 12 times, it's probably safe to assume the senator and the talk show host will make amends." Freedom Eden hopes it will get Letterman to stop his whining about McCain cancelling.
